Het plein/La place is a sound, image and movement collective focused on reclaiming public spaces through dance, music and videography. It was founded by Estelle Czernichowski, as the body movement and dance leader Elvira as the sound magician and myself, Deborah Ephrem, the visual experimenter.
In this first workshop, we have worked over the course of 2 weeks with a group of womxn and minorities, slowly moving inside our private space towards the public space outside. The square in question, "La place Morichar" is an iconic square in an iconic neighbourhood suffering from heavy gentrification.
The video explores the movement of the dancers, the public space in its physicality, the neighbourhood that it weaves together and the gentrification hammering down on it all.
